Poland is set to receive approximately €137bn by the end of February from the EU Commission. A sizeable portion of these funds is allocated towards its energy transition, efficiency improvements and the electrification of transport. Additionally, a smaller allocation will go towards digital transformation initiatives and the healthcare sector.
However, Poland faces a deadline to utilize these funds by 2026, prompting energy companies to advocate for an extension. They argue that more time would facilitate larger-scale infrastructure projects. Suggestions have also been made for Poland to channel these funds towards enhancing its renewable energy capacity and reforming the coal-dependent heat production sector.
EU had previously withheld financial support from Poland in response to actions taken by its previous government concerning undue political influence over its judicial institutions.
