Norway’s Strategy for a Cleaner Future

Electricity from mainland Norway is the most economical method to reduce oil and gas emissions, according to KonKraft. For Norway to achieve its target of slashing greenhouse gas emissions to 6.8 million tons by 2030, the country must grow shore-supplied energy, from 10 TWh to 17 TWh by 2030. 

Focusing on onshore power can dramatically reduce CO2 emissions by 3.5 million tons. Currently, 50% of this target is confirmed from existing measures and pre-production stage projects. However, operators have quoted grid access uncertainty, which could impact investment and the process. 

The hypothesis from experts places Norway’s emissions peaking at 12.8 million tons, followed by a steady decline until 2030, should all measures be faultlessly implemented. The industry is focused on having net-zero emissions come 2050 with KonKraft corroborating that 90-95% of this target is possible with continued investment.
