A revised law was passed today in Switzerland stipulating a 50pc reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030. Most of this reduction will be achieved through national offsetting activities, while the remainder will be obtained through investments abroad.
The new CO2 law will also maintain the carbon price on fuel at 120 Sfr/t CO2, a decision that was not welcomed by the Greens, as well as the absence of an airline ticket tax.
On the other hand, Economiesuisse, the industry federation, approved of the new law, stating that the public’s vote would have little chance of success should there be a public referendum.
