Maritime List Under the EU ETS

The Commission has released a list of maritime companies with the assistance of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). This list aims to reduce the administrative workload on all parties by assigning administrative authority—member states—to the shipping companies.

The companies included in the list are specified as ‘shipping companies’ and/or companies registered with at least one ship on THETIS MRV since November 20, 2023. However, some of these registered companies might not fall under the ‘shipping company’ definition, as it will only apply from the beginning of 2024, excluding the period from 2018 to 2023.

The directive also noted that the criteria for a shipping company to be included in the EU ETS are tied to the type of maritime transport activities it performs, as outlined in the directive, not its appearance on the list.
