IATA & ICAO: Extension of Guidance on Air Transportation of Dangerous Goods

A recent discussion between the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) resulted in plans for future collaboration and the agreement to extend cooperation on establishing and implementing global standards for safe air transportation of dangerous goods.

This agreement reaffirms that the commitment to uphold the highest globally recognized standards of safe and secure handling of dangerous goods remains paramount. In a joint effort with the aviation industry, IATA and ICAO are working to create practical tools and guidelines that can be utilized throughout the value chain, including manufacturers, shippers, airlines, freight forwarders and ground handlers. This will allow for enhanced and safe inspection, handling and carriage of dangerous goods on aircrafts.

IATA has been guiding the transportation of dangerous goods by air since 1956, and ICAO has adopted Annex 18 for international transport of dangerous goods in 1984.
