Last year, Europe increased its wind capacity by 13 pc compared to 2022; marking the highest wind power increase in one year. Germany, Sweden and Netherlands have installed the most capacity among EU countries, with the Netherlands building the most offshore wind capacity.
Although it is a notable increase, EU has to consider installing more capacity to achieve the bloc’s climate targets for 2023-2030.
The new European Wind Power Action Plan, published last October and singed by 26 EU members, aims at enhancing Europe’s wind energy industry. This involves adjusting auction prices and tariffs, simplifying the permitting process for new wind farms, and providing tools by the European Investment Bank to mitigate financial risks associated with investments in the industry.
