Europe’s Growing Nuclear Energy

Europe’s power generation is increasingly turning to nuclear power as an addition to its energy mix. Many member states in the EU are exploring nuclear power as a viable alternative to fossil fuels, where several countries are putting forth plans to build new plants to push for its use in power generation. To this end, a new collective goal was set among the 16 nations for the continent to increase its current 100GW to 150GW by 2050. However, it is important to note that gas-fired plants will maintain their current presence, since there is a continent-wide transition toward renewable energy sources that rely on weather conditions. Already, several countries including Germany and Hungary have announced its plans to expand its gas-fired capacity in the future.
