EU Gas Generation Sees Decline

Gas-fired electricity plummeted in June across the EU, due to increased renewable energy, leading to the lowest power consumption month since 2016. Electrical gas usage hovered at 11% in June, a 0.8% decrease from 2023 and a significant 20.6% drop since 2022.

In June, the continent’s warm weather prompted a shift, from heating to cooling, resulting in power use at 243.8GW, a 248GW drop from the previous month.

Despite a slight decrease in renewable resources from May 2024 to June 2024, its usage rose overall from 2023, with wind generation increasing by 5.9GW, solar by 2.6, and hydro by 2.2GW. Nuclear generation rose by 1.6 GW, demonstrating a commitment to reduce environmental impact.
