ARR Madagascar involves the reforestation and regeneration of eligible land within a concession area under a renewable lease with the Malagasy government. Given that the land consists mainly of grassland with some trees and shrubs, characteristic of the forest formations of north-western Madagascar, and that the south-eastern edge of the future plantation area contains degraded dryland, the main idea of the plantation design is to optimize the use of native trees in combination with fast-growing commercial species.
